Join us on Saturday, March 4th, for delicious food, yummy drinks, live music, and quality time with folks in San Diego County passionate about cultivating justice, fighting climate change, and building resilience through food. San Diego Food System Alliance is hosting quarterly social hours this year that highlight local food businesses while building connections across our community food system. For this year’s first social hour, join us at [Café X](https://cdpn.io/sdfoodsys/fullpage/abazRvj?nocache=true&view=#3302B6) in Sherman Heights, owned and operated by mother-daughter duo Cynthia Ajani and Khea Pollard. **While this event is free, we ask that you** [**register**](https://blog.sdfsa.org/store/spring-social) **so that we can plan accordingly. Space is limited.** Hope to see you there! --- **About Café X: By Any Beans Necessary** [Café X: By Any Beans Necessary](https://www.byanybeans.com/) is a family-owned, Black woman-owned cooperative coffee shop built to support generational wealth building in the Black community and other marginalized communities. Café X is the only cooperative coffee shop in San Diego whose mission is specific and intentionally devoted to uplifting Black people and other marginalized communities. Our cooperative coffee shop concept arose in 2016 at the conclusion of a year-long community fellowship program—hosted by RISE San Diego—where we developed our mission, vision, and reason for being. We are Black women and make no apologies for the desire to support and build generational wealth in our community. Our name and essence is an allusion to the great Malcolm X and his unapologetic ambition for Black self-determination in a country steeped in inequality.  When Black people rise, we all rise.  [Visit Café X’s website](https://www.byanybeans.com/) | [Find Café X on Yelp](https://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-x-san-diego-4) | [Follow Café X on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/theofficialcafex/) | [Follow Café X on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/byanybeans/) [mailto:https%3A%2F%2Fblog.sdfsa.org%2Fthe-understory%2Fblog%2Fspring-social-cafe-x](mailto:https%3A%2F%2Fblog.sdfsa.org%2Fthe-understory%2Fblog%2Fspring-social-cafe-x) ## Keep reading ### [![](https://blog.sdfsa.org/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Centering%20Youth%20in%20the%20Movement%20to%20Transform%20San%20Diego%20County%E2%80%99s%20Food%20System/morse_high_school_students.jpg?width=5000&height=3335&name=morse_high_school_students.jpg) Centering Youth in the Movement to Transform San Diego County’s Food System](https://blog.sdfsa.org/the-understory/centering-youth) ### [![](https://blog.sdfsa.org/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Celebrating%20Five%20Years%20of%20Food%20Vision%202030%20Banner.png?width=1920&height=1080&name=Celebrating%20Five%20Years%20of%20Food%20Vision%202030%20Banner.png) Celebrating Five Years of Food Vision 2030](https://blog.sdfsa.org/the-understory/celebrating-five-years-of-food-vision-2030) #### San Diego Food System Alliance [San Diego County Food Vision 2030](https://sdfoodvision2030.org/) ↗ [The Local Food Economy Lab](https://lab.sdfsa.org/) ↗ [Why Food?](https://sdfsa.org/why-food) [Events & Workshops](https://sdfsa.org/get-involved#events) [Donate](https://sdfsa.org/donate) Office Hours: Monday — Thursday / 10am — 5pm Pacific Mailing Address: P.O.
