It is hard to believe that we are at the halfway point of Food Vision 2030.
Five years ago, we launched San Diego County Food Vision 2030 with the understanding that it was time to reimagine and reconfigure our food system. Communities across our region came together knowing that there was no question that the current path was unsustainable and transformations needed to take root at the community level.
Over the past several years, small-scale farmers, fishermen, food business owners, workers, organizers, policymakers, funders, and residents across San Diego County have come together to build a powerful movement that brings the goals and objectives of Food Vision 2030 to life. Guided by the leadership of frontline communities, we have celebrated significant achievements, milestones, and transformations across our region.
Today, we would like to share reflections and observations from the Food Vision 2030 Stewardship Committee, highlighting a glimpse of important milestones and community progress made over the past five years.
As we share these reflections, we recognize the countless community efforts across our region that must also be named and are essential for bringing Food Vision 2030 to life. We know that this movement is alive across neighborhoods, farms, oceans, kitchens, and community spaces throughout the region, and we want to hear from you.
Please share your reflections, observations, accomplishments, and celebrations with us. What transformations are happening in your communities and how have you seen Food Vision 2030 come to life over the past five years?
We have so many reasons to celebrate, even as we acknowledge the work ahead of us. What began as a shared community vision has blossomed into a beautiful and thriving movement—one led by community and for community. Food Vision 2030 is our north star, and our collective goals of cultivating justice, fighting climate change, and building resilience remain more important than ever.
We know that the next five years will not be easy. We also know that nothing about our work and our movement has ever been easy. Together, we will work to preserve the progress that we have made, overcome challenges, and make our vision for a better world possible. Our movement is strong, and we trust that our collective work over the past five years will illuminate our resolve and the path to 2030 and beyond.
